What’s up Mega Sesh Fam!
This year has proved to be both an exciting and challenging time in the California Cannabis Industry. This of course, includes cannabis events. The legal structure of how a Cannabis Event can be held in California definitely has its growing pains – to say the least. Here’s the scoop:
– We’ve had to change the dates. Mega Sesh 2018 WILL NOT happen in June. We’ve taken the tickets offline as there were people ordering tickets perhaps under the impression that the event was still happening this weekend despite the ticket description saying dates may change —- and they have. We did not feel right taking ticket revenue under those possible pretenses before making this announcement. Once everyone has received this announcement, ticket sales will be back online.
– Licensed California Cannabis Adult-Use Events (21+) have been limited to 1 of 80 California owned Agricultural Centers / Fairgrounds if the cannabis event as consumption and sales. The problem however, is that even those few locations need to set individual policies on cannabis events at their locations. Regrettably, it’s not looking great for Southern California licensed cannabis events. For example, Orange County Fairgrounds is on that map of 80 locations but Orange County Fair has decided to not have cannabis events at their fairground. That unfortunately is the story with many of the local Southern California options. Additionally, once one of those Fairgrounds does give consent to have an event at their location, the local City needs to grant permission to have the event also.
– There’s hope though! There’s a bill going through the California Assembly right now that has been moving successfully. AB2020 introduced by Assembly member Bill Quirk would allow Cannabis Events to take place outside of those 80 locations. However if turned into law, this may not take effect until 2019.
– So what about Mega Sesh 2018? Good news! There’s a sunset clause in Prop 215 that ends January 9th, 2019. So we have until then to run Mega Sesh 2018, and we will. We’re in negotiations right now with venues that allow for an event of this capacity that is located in Southern California. What does a prop 215 event mean?
o Attendees must be 18+ with a legal California Doctors Recommendation
o A LOT more vendors. The process of becoming an adult-use brand unfortunately hasn’t been easy for many of the companies you love! That means, you’ll likely see them at Mega Sesh 2018 as this will be one of the last Prop 215 events.
o Doctors on-site that have agreed to cap their prices at an affordable rate. Out of State IDs are welcome.
Your TICKETS are still good for Mega Sesh 2018. Any of those who PAID for a ticket will be automatically upgraded to VIP. Those who already bought VIP will be offered FREE PARKING with their ticket ($20 value and not normally included) and an additional exclusive gift on the day the event.
Thanks for barring with us while we navigate the obstacles of the now legal Adult-Use Cannabis market.
